Many people would be surprised to find out that the slot machines that operate within Las Vegas aren’t stand alone, and that in fact, almost like progressive slots, all of the slot games that are on the floor are indeed networked to a centralized data server. Or so reports computerworld.com in an article entitled: “Casino Data Centre lack Hollywood Glitz” which gives a great insight into operations and logistics required to run a land based casino.
The reason behind the centralized data centre approach is apparently due to being able to up the transaction speeds as well as accountability. So in other words they know exactly how much is in each machine at given time.
Some might question that by knowing this information that a lot of the slots are rigged and that the casino could put the odds more in their favour, but indeed this is not the case, as the purpose of all this tracking is to report back to the keep to the strict regulations that keep Vegas based casino in check by the Nevada Gaming Commission.
